The 4th February 2023 marks World Cancer Day – a day that unites people, communities and entire countries to raise awareness and take action.

Since 2015, Ticketmaster have been fundraising for Cancer Research UK as one of their longest and most loyal partners. The last eight years have seen the team take on many fundraising challenges – from karaoke, to dancing, to boxing, to baking, to on-street fundraising. This World Cancer Day, Ticketmaster are offering fans the opportunity to add a charitable donation on tickets bought through its websites, where 100% of their donation will go to Cancer Research UK. This will also give unrivalled visibility to the awareness of the cause.

As we approach the huge £1.5 million milestone, it’s a great time to reflect on why Ticketmaster are committed to the work of Cancer Research UK:

Andrew Parsons, Managing Director of Ticketmaster UK said: “Cancer has likely touched all of us at some stage — whether it’s a family member we know who’s had cancer, a friend or even a colleague. Over the past eight years, the team have strived to make this disease a thing of the past. Reaching the £1.5 million fundraising milestone will be a testament to the difference we can make when we come together for a common cause. This is such a proud moment for the team and we’ve got so much more in the pipeline.”

Eve Mitchell, Head of Partnerships at Cancer Research UK said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Ticketmaster again to mark World Cancer Day and are so grateful for the incredible support of Ticketmaster colleagues and customers. It’s thanks to partners like Ticketmaster that we can continue our vital work to make progress for people affected by cancer.”

What happens to the funds raised?

The funds raised by Ticketmaster have helped Cancer Research UK continue their work with researchers, doctors and nurses. Their work has helped prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and with each day they are getting closer to their goal of seeing 3 in 4 people with cancer survive for 10 years or more by 2034.

With the help from the money raised by the Ticketmaster team, Cancer Research UK has been able to fund numerous life-saving research projects, including:

  • Developing a new blood test that can detect when lung cancer is coming back nearly seven months before standard tests.
  • Designing Cytosponge, a tool that can detect 10 times more cases of Barrett’s oesophagus, a condition that can lead to oesophageal cancer.
  • Launching the MARIETTA trial, which tested a new treatment regime for people with lymphoma that had spread to the brain or spine. The trial results showed that this new regime has the potential to significantly improve survival rates for people with this type of cancer.
