Festival Republic have launched ‘Rebalance Celebrates International Women’s Day’, taking place at Islington’s Union Chapel on Sunday 8 March, inviting those wanting a career in music to meet other women in the industry. Day tickets went on sale last week and sold out in just 4 days, illustrating the great demand for networking opportunities for women across the music business.

There will be one to ones and speed networking, as well as educational talks to encouraging words of wisdom, and the event is being run by an all-female team including staging, ticketing, finance and even security.

Women from Festival Republic, Live Nation, Academy Music Group, Big Scary Monsters, Sony Music, MAMA, Ogle Hog, Metropolis, Melody VR, National Merchandise, BBC, Safe Gigs for Women, and PRS Foundation will be in attendance, covering management to agents, promoters to marketers, riggers to stage managers, and beyond.

For the past three years festival republic have been running the ‘Rebalance’ programme, which aims to address the gender imbalance in the music industry. Over this time, they have been successful in supporting female identifying musicians as they record their material at Old Chapel Studios in Leeds, as well as supporting female talent in Producing and Engineering with apprentices at the same venue.

The ReBalance team said:

“We are incredibly proud of what ReBalance has achieved, so it only made sense to take the scheme further by hosting an event on International Women’s Day for those who want to meet the industry. Aimed at newcomers or if you’re just curious, this event is the chance to learn from the brightest stars and pick up some tips. Lack of female representation in music is an industry wide issue, and we want to level it.”

In 2020 they plan to expand the remit of Rebalance even further to encompass to support female crew in their careers, particularly focussing on increasing opportunities for Stage Managers in live music. On top of this they are promoting shows by female identifying artists at their ‘Rebalance Presents’ nights.

Nilüfer Yanya has been announced to give a very special performance at Union Chapel on Sunday 8 March, supported by Martha Hill and Tamzene who have come through the ReBalance programme. Tickets for this evening event are available from here.
